Mt. Taranaki

Our next day in New Plymouth we did one of the shorter treks up Mt. Taranaki. If you read my last blog you would realize that it was a rainy day. We put on our rain jackets and made our way to the mountain. Due to the rain we decided to do one of the shorter hikes, about 1 hour total.

All along the hike there was green moss growing everywhere. All of the plants here receive large amounts of rain year round and that enables the forest to be very green and lush.

We did end up getting some nice photos of lots of green plants, however we missed out on seeing the top of the mountain; it was too foggy out the whole time.

Mt. Taranaki also has many different hiking trails for people of all skill levels. We passed a lookout that was just a five minute hike north of the visitor centre and there is also a 5 hour hike for those wishing to summit the mountain!

Overall it turned out to be a great afternoon! I would recommend checking out Mt. Taranaki if you are ever in or around the Taranaki region.
