Cairns Esplanade

One thing that Cairns is most known for is their esplanade – which is basically a large man-made swimming pool that is the main swimming area for people in town. There are no beaches in Cairns because there is about 15m of mud all around the shoreline.

The esplanade has small little beaches around the edge of it and it is just a nice place to hang out for the day.

We also took a walk down to the Casino which is located just east of the esplanade. We gambled away our life savings and are unable to come home (Just kidding, but we did each donate 5 dollars to the casino in the form of slot machines). On top of the casino they have this wildlife zoo sort of thing which we seriously debated doing….but opted not to as we were heading up to Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest – lots of animals to see up there!

We also consulted Trip Advisor about some of the best places to eat and the number 1 ranked place in Cairns is Devine Gelato. We took a walk by and the fresh gelato looked amazing. We had to stop and try some. It was absolutely amazing.

After one week in Cairns we have decided to move along.

Bye Bye Blue House. This was where we stayed for our week in Cairns.

Sami’s friend Bec from Port Douglas (about 1.25 hours north of Cairns) came and picked us up from our place on Tuesday night and drove us up to her place where we will be staying the next leg of our trip! I’ll keep you updated on what we are doing next.
