The week we arrived in Brisbane, we were lucky to discover that the Brisbane Festival was on.
Since Brisbane is known for the large river that runs through it, most of the events that we saw were along the river in a place called Southbank – basically the part of the city that the public goes to hang out by the lagoon (similar to Cairns – a man made swimming pool along the river).
On our third night in Brisbane, AKA Brissy AKA BrisVegas, we wandered down to the river to catch the light show. Basically the city parks a barge in the middle of the river and puts on a light show twice a night – once at 7PM and once at 9PM.
Luckily we went early and caught some free live music at the park.
Once the band ended – the light show started. We watched from the side a little bit and realized that it would have been much better straight on – due to the positioning of the lasers it was hard to see the images/words from the side.
After the light show we stayed for some more music! There was an A Capella group called Soulstice Brisbane that were very good.
You can check out a video of them HERE.
After two bands played we realized that it was just about time for the light show to start again – so this time we caught it from right in the middle and it was much better. They had lights attached to many of the tall buildings behind that shone onto the barge in the middle. They also incorporated 3 people swinging back and forth through falling water on the barge.
Since the still photos don’t really do it justice HERE is short video clip.
At the festival there were also lots of cool lights / cones and things to walk around and see. We got a few photos with some of them.
Overall we were extremely happy that we made it out to the Brisbane Festival.
