Brisbane Roar

While we were staying at the YHA in Brisbane we had a great view from the roof. We were able to see Suncorp Stadium – which is basically a giant stadium where AFL, Rugby and Soccer matches are played, as well as concerts, etc.

Since the AFL and NRL season had ended for the year, we decided to go and see the Brisbane Roar (Brisbane’s Soccer Team) play.

The stadium was huge and many of the seats were empty. Apparently Soccer is not their most popular sport here.

It turned out to be a pretty exciting game. The Melbourne Heart (Brisbane’s opponent) had a few good chances early in the game but they could not capitalize. At half the score was still 0-0.

Shortly after halftime Brisbane scored a goal and never looked back. They dominated the second half scoring 3 goals and winning the game 3-0. After the match Brisbane was first in the standings and Melbourne was last.

Of course while we were there we had a few beers.

It was very cool experience to be at the Suncorp Stadium. Hopefully later next year we can catch a live AFL game.
